Accelerate the development of the "bamboo instead of plastic" industry

On October 13, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Finance, the National Forestry and Grassland Administration and other departments jointly issued a notice on the "Three-Year Action Plan to Accelerate the Development of "Replacing Plastics with Bamboo"" (hereinafter referred to as the "Notice"). The current industry scale is small, the output is low, the cost is high, and the technology and equipment are relatively backward. In order to accelerate the development of "replacing plastic with bamboo", this action plan is formulated.

The "Notice" points out that the goal of this action plan is that by 2025, the domestic "bamboo instead of plastic" industrial system will be initially established, product quality, product types, industrial scale, and comprehensive benefits will be further improved, and the market share of key products will be significantly increased. . Compared with 2022, the comprehensive added value of the main products of "Bamboo instead of Plastic" has increased by more than 20%, and the comprehensive utilization rate of bamboo has increased by 20 percentage points.

Recently, the pace of plastic pollution and plastic restriction has continued to accelerate. Under the "carbon" goal, plastic substitution is the general trend. In January 2020, the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment issued the "Opinions on Further Strengthening the Control of Plastic Pollution", requiring that by 2025, the management system for the production, circulation, consumption and return penalties of plastic products should be improved, and non-degradable plastics should be gradually banned, limited use.

Judging from the latest data, in September 2023, it was revealed at the unveiling ceremony of the "Bamboo Replacement of Plastic" Standardization Working Group of the China Circular Economy Association that my country currently has about 100 million acres of bamboo resources, and about 150 million bamboo resources can be developed and utilized annually. tons, the annual output value of the bamboo industry has reached 320 billion yuan.

Many listed companies have already taken the lead in deploying “on behalf of plastics”

Driven by policies, the concept of "replacing plastic with bamboo" has been popular for several rounds in 2022, and the major listed companies in the bamboo products industry chain have attracted market attention. 

Among the major companies, the listed companies in the bamboo home furnishing industry mainly include Yutong Technology (002831), Shanying International (600567), Dashengda (603687), Shuangqiang Technology (001211) and the Beijing Stock Exchange listed company Longzhu Technology (831445) etc.; Yongan Forestry (000663), Qingshan Paper (600103) and Yibin Paper (600793) are also popular in the market due to their rich local bamboo forest resources and corresponding reserves.

Among them, three companies, Yutong Technology, Shanying International and Dashengda, are paper packaging companies. They have been early in the field of plastic substitution. They began to produce environmentally friendly tableware a few years ago to replace traditional plastic tableware.

In July 2018, Yutong Technology announced the investment in the Yibin environmentally friendly paper-plastic project. The production line mainly produces paper-plastic packaging environmentally friendly lunch boxes and paper trays made of biodegradable sugarcane bagasse and bamboo pulp. The project will reach full production in 2022. At present, Yutong Technology's environmentally friendly paper and plastic products have begun to take shape and are steadily contributing to revenue. In the first half of 2023, its environmentally friendly paper and plastic products achieved revenue of 425 million yuan.

Shanying International will cooperate with Xiamen Jitli to build the Yibin Xiangtai food paper and plastic factory in 2021. The Yibin factory is a food paper and plastic production base built in accordance with the strict food packaging industry requirements by utilizing local bamboo pulp and energy advantages. Yibin The first phase of the base has been successfully put into production in the first quarter of 2022.

In 2022, Dashengda won a plot of land in Yunlong Industrial Park, Haikou City, to invest in the construction of the "Pulp Molded Environmentally Friendly Tableware Intelligent R&D and Production Base Project" to serve the purpose of green environmental protection. The project can achieve the dual carbon goal of using paper Development in the field of new plastic materials.

It is worth mentioning that companies that are working hard on "replacing plastic with paper" include Zhongxin Co., Ltd., which is sprinting for the Shanghai Main Board IPO. Its products use plant fiber raw materials such as bagasse pulp and use molding processes to produce various types of tableware and packaging.
